Al-Hol Camp is located in Al-Hol town, southeast of Al-Hasakah, 35 km away, which is the administrative center of Al Hol town, it is about 12 kilometers from the Iraqi-Syrian border. In April 2019, the population of the camp has reached more than 74000 people, including 49000 children, but according to some civil activists, this number is questionable and the population of the camp may reach more than 100,000 people and this is because many of the camp residents are not registered with the camp officials.
The camp’s refugees are Syrian and Iraqi civilians with their families and also the families of national and international ISIS members. According to the sources, the camp includes refugees from more than 43 different countries. There are more than 11,000 foreigners including children and women, but the largest proportion of refugees are Iraqis
Al-Hol camp, or the so-called “small state of Daesh”, is the last stronghold of the Islamic State. There are no men or young people in this camp and the majority of its population are children, women, and elders. The black color (niqab) is prevalent in the camp.
This camp is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) supported by US forces, These forces often make agreements with the Arab tribes and sell to them their citizens whether they joined ISIS or not in the previous period, these forces worked with the tribes of Raqqa and Der Al-Zor. On one occasion SDF has sold more than 1,000 people from the camp and those tribes in Syria
As many videos and video reports broadcast by television channels show that ISIS families who live in Al-Hol camp are still practicing their lives with determination and defiance As if they were living under the Islamic State rule, and that they refuse to obey the camp administration’s instructions that cannot impose themselves on them for fear of rebellion. Several serious cases have almost produced disastrous results, so we see that the majority of them cling to the finer details of their lives of clothing, thinking, and laws
On one occasion, former elements of the so-called “Islamic State Police of Ethics”, which consists of women killed a woman in the camp because she took off Al-Niqab and revealed her face and said that the Islamic State is over. Many of these women are armed with knives and sharp tools and no one can disobey their orders and even children are beaten when they mention ISIS instead of an Islamic state. So far, those people do not admit that the Islamic State is defeated and no longer exist.
According to the latest statistics announced by the Yazidis abductees Office and this statistic are approved by the United Nations, according to this statistic, the number of Yazidis abducted on the third of August 2014 was approximately (6417) of whom (3548) female, (2869) male.
The number of survivors from ISIS captivity so far has reached (3487) people as follows:
Females (1186), males (337), female children (1027), male children (940), and there are still (2930) people in captivity, including (1338) female and (1592) male
So far, more than 100 Yezidi children and women have been freed (bought) from this camp, According to the sources, as well as according to the families of the abductees, the remaining Yezidi abductors are inevitably present in this camp as the last stronghold of ISIS, Many of these abductees cannot return to their families for many reasons. One of these reasons is that some of the children have been brainwashed and do not know that they are Yazidis at all but they think that they are Muslims and they defend ISIS.
Some of the women do not know anything because ISIS members told them that the Yazidism had been ended and the Yazidis are no longer exist. The other reason why they did not return is that ISIS members say in the camp that the Yezidis would kill anyone who returns because they become Muslims and they left their religion. Although this is untrue, the Yazidis, as the whole world knew and testified that they are receiving the survivors with flowers. The survivors from ISIS captivity are the holiest people and the Yazidis know that what happened to them was beyond their control.
The living situation in the camp is worse and does not have the most basic means of living, Not to mention the danger inherent in it, as mentioned earlier, the wives of ISIS continue to believe in the continuation and expansion of the Caliphate and continue to treat Yezidi women as slaves and children as servants, The Yazidis demand the Iraqi government first and then the international community secondly, as well as civil society organizations to intervene immediately and find a suitable solution for children and women Yazidis and rescued from the brutalization of ISIS terrorist
The Iraqi government did not do anything for the Yazidis as they are also Iraqi citizens. As for the Iraqi government, what prevents it from intervening and acting to save its citizens is due to several reasons, the most important one is the weak relationship between the Iraqi government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The other reason is that the government is afraid of the rebellion problems among the tribe because some members of a certain tribe joined ISIS and killed people from another tribe.
Because of the precarious security situation in the camp, the security forces, whether Iraqi or Syrian, do not let citizens enter the camp for their own safety.
